Chapter 79 – Established Ties (Start)

Outside of Ricca town.

A squadron group of 30 Adventurers were forced to stop. And similarly appearing in a difficult situation was Rumont, who was just standing at their front; attempting to explain something to them.

“Rumont, why the fuck are you stopping us for? Could it be that you don’t wish find that arse to dispel your hatred?” Howard was puzzled as he looked at Rumont.

Wanting to hurry back to town at once, this aggressive group of Adventurers hurried back quickly. Evidently desiring to grab ahold of Priest Dennis to release out their hatred.

However, in regards to this matter, Rumont nevertheless didn’t feel that it would be this easy. Because he understood even more the conducts of Priest Dennis, and of the Baron than the Adventurers, he wanted to be even more clear about it.

First of all, the person they wanted to handle wasn’t ordinary, but instead a member or the clergy; this kind was not easily judged even by the nobility. It was a profession in which any kind of accusation would require the Church to pass the final adjudication; their privileges couldn’t be belittled.

Priest Dennis was the presiding Priest of the Shrine in town, if at this time he denied it all, then even if there were so many witness, he feared that it still wasn’t good enough to anchor his crimes.

Moreover, as the regional Feudal Lord, the Baron would further hope to not have such malicious conduct arising from a clergy member within his own territory. It couldn’t be said for sure, he might even, after the event occurred, obstruct the Adventurer’s acts of reprisals.

Still, the most critical point was, if these Adventurers were allowed to directly force into the Shrine and violently rampage, furthermore to the point where it was unknown what kind of situation would occur, in the case something was exacerbated, ultimately, they who originally had justifications, might also become the figures for others to attack.

What they needed to do now, was to release the truth of the matter out and letting everyone know; making a big deal of the disputes and taking the matter to the limit. It would be best if the disputes then reached the extent of people desiring to suppress it yet unable to. This way, even if Priest Dennis had any crafty ruse, under such a situation, it would also be of no use. Even if the Baron want to prevent it, he would still be powerless.

Thinking to this point, Rumont immediately thought that returning to the town at this moment, was honestly not an intelligent option.

Thus, when this group of Adventurers wanted to aggressively return to the small town, they were then barred by Rumont.

Commander Howard saw Rumont hinder at the front and was naturally quite puzzled. However, listening to Rumont’s finished explanation, he also felt he was indeed too impetuous: “you’re right. Then what should we do? Return to the Adventurers Guild first?”

“Correct, we should first return to the Adventurers Guild. Denouncing the Priest’ and Lancas’ collaborating plot against our members to the Guild. This way of solving would be more lawful than directly returning to town and venting off. We would even be able to grasp onto the initiative. After all, the Adventurers Guild is an organization to support the Adventurers. Perfect settlements could perhaps be obtained from them, for any matter that’s difficult to be resolved in the town, right?” Rumont said.

“Correct. We’ll listen to you then. We’ll first return to the Adventurers Guild and denounce the matter that occurred to the Guild. The members of Lancas’ squad, you can also give the Guild an account of your own experiences. After all, you guys are also victims for this matter.” After Commander Howard listened to what Rumont said, he made the final decision. Not returning to the town first and instead, returning to the Adventurers Guild in the city first.

Simultaneously, he also accepted Rumont’s proposal, to temporarily maintain the collaborating relationship with the members of Lancas’ squad.

Although Lancas’ conduct and actions were for the sake of personal resentment, as an Adventurer, his actions nevertheless knocked against the Adventurers’ taboo. This kind of action of betraying a teammate during the execution of a mission was something no Adventurer would be able to tolerate; regardless of whether this action had influenced their own livelihood or not.

After all, the moment this kind of event was tolerated, and furthermore spread unchecked from hereon, then in the future when missions were being carried out, any person’s life would possibly be at threat by a teammate, at any given time.

The profession of an Adventurer was originally a profession that would encounter an extreme amount of dangers. In the constant amount of missions, if there was also simultaneously, the taken consideration of whether the hidden dagger of the surrounding people would be directed at themselves, then in this kind of situation, not only would it influence the cooperation between the squad teams, it would even bring about many complications.

Thus, when the actions of betray against teammates occurred during the execution of a mission, then that person would definitely receive the spurn from all of the Adventurers.

Moreover, Lancas’ actions had also indirectly caused the death of a good few people. He had even personally killed a member of his own squad, as well as arrogantly prepared to do away with all the people in the underground chambers. This kind of person, this kind of conduct and behaviour, would naturally attract the hatred of the entire squad.

As for the former members of the same squadron as Lancas, their emotions were even more complicated in regards to Lancas. Not only did they detest his deceivement of their feelings, they resented even more how he was cold-blooded and ruthless, as well as the disgrace his type of actions all brought for them.

Thus, under the situation of Lancas already being dead, they had shifted their entire resentment onto Priest Dennis, in addition, as time went by, this kind of anger would be increasingly exuberant.

Hearing to not return to town first, but instead make a detour to the Adventurers Guild within the city, the members of Lancas’ squad also expressed their approval.

Hence, a group of people had marched grandly towards the small city.

Spring in the small city looked to be much more lively than winter time, the soldiers at the city entrance also seemed to have changed into new clothes. Although it was somewhat obviously thing, it was still considered to be smart and lively. At this time, it was just when they chanced upon a new squad regiment guarding the gate. Different to the older soldiers, in regards to the position of guarding this city gate, they felt quite relaxed being their first day stationed here. The sun had already risen quite high. They were all each idly leaning against the city gate, chatting away, or was discussing how pretty the lady that had just walked past was; this was their day’s work.

At this time, a soldier had lifted his head and glanced towards the exterior of the city. He was suddenly alarmed, before promptly using his hands to pull the person beside him. “Ah ah ah, guys come quick. Who are those eh. It doesn’t look right at all! Do we need to investigate!”

Every soldier promptly lifted their head to look and they then saw on the road that lead to the city gates, a group people that looked no different to the man-eating tribes. They were aggressively hurrying towards them. Killing intent. Adding on the fact of the bloodstains on the people, when looked upon, it even caused people to feel alarmed.

“Looks like it, doesn’t seem right. Is…….is it an enemy attack? We, we should first close the gate right?” because it was a new group of soldiers, and it was also their first time encountering such a situation, thus they had panicked. One of them went so far as to suggest to first close the city gates. As for the other soldiers, they had also surprisingly agreed with the suggestion. Thus, the city gates were quickly shut by their rapid movements.

When Rumont and the others had hurried over, they saw such a scenario that it made them not know whether to laugh or cry: a group of soldiers which looked to be incessantly panicking, telling them to explain themselves and just not opening the city gates.

When the city gate official got ahold of the news and hurried over, after querying the situation, it had already been a good while later. The Adventurers that were originally quite furious, had even held in their stomach of anger due to the long period of waiting. Admittedly, they had fiercely stared towards the soldiers that were guarding the city gate, but nevertheless they did not truly go and take the opposition and place them on the floor for a beating; who told themselves to indeed not look like any people of integrity eh. They could only as well include this anger onto Priest Dennis. Afterwards, they continued on to the Adventurers Guild in an aggressive manner.

Seeing Rumont and the others go far away, the exasberated city gate official slapped the heads of the soldiers successively. “What should I say to you eh? Haven’t you seen Adventurers before? Haven’t you seen worldly things before!”

The new soldiers that had their heads slapped all had their heads down and faces lowered; an appearance of repenting, while their hearts were still dwelling on the issue. It looks like safeguarding the city gates isn’t as relaxing of a work ah.

As for Rumont and the group of people, they had quickly arrived at the Adventurers Guild. The one that greeted Rumont and the group this time was still the middle-aged man that Rumont had encountered from last time. Seeing how everyone was cutting such a sorry figure, he did not seem at all to feel it was too strange, that this was a frequent matter.

“You guys want to file a complaint? Denouncing that someone had betrayed team mates during the process of carrying out a mission?” however, arriving inside at the office hall of the Adventurers Guild, the female that had formerly handled the Druid registers for Rumont, was astonished and staring at everyone once she learnt of the information.

Not only her, the other Adventurers that was in the process of handling their businesses, had also gathered over once they heard the female’s alarmed cry. Some that were acquainted with Howard and the others, had even called out a greeting and privately inquired.

Once everyone learnt of it, that the guy called Lancas had crazily conducted revenge for a personal grudge during the execution of a mission, as well as wanting to get rid of all the teammates that learnt of the truth, this kind of vicious conduct had immediately enraged all the present Adventurers.

And as Howard and the others followed on with declaring that crimes of Priest Dennis, it even stimulated everyone’s anger towards a common adversary.

Adventurers were usually a type of profession that was believed to be the most united as one. Although they would frequently compete and have conflicts during the executions of mission, this did not influence the times when they were provoked externally, displaying the so-called solidarity of the same profession.

“It’s unexpected that the Priests would have such a scum!” an Adventurer that Rumont and the others weren’t acquainted with had loudly shouted once he heard everything: “this kind of person could actually become a Priest. This is too preposterous! This is practically fouling the Shrines!”

“That’s right, that’s right, this kind of scum could surprisingly be regarded as a Priest, it’s simply a joke!”

“He’s simply not fit to be a Priest. Everyone should rally against him! If this kind of human dreg is still disguised with the clothings of a Priest, then it’s practically the biggest profanity to the Earth Goddess!”

Even more Adventurers indignantly expressed their regards of Priest Dennis’ conduct, gravely suspecting it as well as being dissatisfied at how he could even serve as a Priest.

The matter was like this. Amongst the indignant cries of everyone, after it calmed down a bit, the Adventurers Guild then decided to investigate this matter. Furthermore, under the circumstances of even more Adventurers being witnesses, they had publicly announced this matter to all the Adventurers.

The Adventurers Guild had acted in announcing this matter to all of the Adventurers. This way of handling things was tantamount to a convert phrasing in recognizing the authenticity of this matter.

As for Howard and the others, they had also carried on in spreading their personal viewpoints to their established contacts. Shortly, every Adventurer that knew of this subject matter, were all incomparably furious.
