Chapter 99 – Dryad (Start)

In regards to Rumont’s rapid departure, Sir DeMarco was extremely astounded. As he saw it, it was still quite early. Waiting but a moment and it would be supper time, and after supper time there would even be a dance. The activities of the saloon was just barely starting!

By what Owenna then gently said to her parents, Sir DeMarco’s gaze was even more flabbergasted. However he did not ask much: “since it’s like this, then we’ll see you again in a week. However at that time, you better explain yourself on why you’re so hasty!”

The Sir and Lady saw Rumont off to the entrance.

Rumont mounted his horse and rode into the evening sun which was not all that fierce. Several clouds were forming continuously at the mountain, hanging distantly at the mountaintop. When the evening sunshine shined on the clouds, it appeared extremely beautiful.

Because his mind was occupied, thus after Rumont had bid farewell to the Knight household couple, he had then hastily journeyed on the road, right until he arrived onto the main road. Seeing the Baronet’s residency was already left far far back into the distance, Rumont’s expression was then relaxed.

Both sides of the farmlands were quite the autumn scenery, however, Rumont nevertheless did not pay one iota of attention on it. He gazed at the small piece of timber in his hand that he had requested from the Baronet household. Using the powers of a Druid, he measured the insides of it. His eyes revealed a pleasantly surprised look.

A feeble consciousness was still dragging out its last breath, but quite evidently, if it wasn’t quickly given any emergency assistance, it would quite easily dissipate.

Arriving at a distant pathway within the forest, it was a ruined location at the villa; but it was overgrown with weeds. Occasionally, several bluestones could be seen half buried into the ground, showing how particularly calm this place was and where people wouldn’t come.

Rumont dismounted from the horse and seeing nobody around, he then closed his eyes in meditation, a green light flickered within his hand: “Mending!”

A green light spilled over the piece of wood, shortly, the verdant piece of wood had unexpectedly exploded forth with a single new sprout. Rumont carefully looked at it and sensed the consciousness within. Gradually, he displayed a smile: “it really is a dryad!”

It was no wonder Rumont was so excited, after all, within the records of a Druid, a dryad was an extremely unique type of being, it was also a type of being that was quite difficult to discover by people.

It was passed on that dryads were the forest nymphs of myth, and that each dryad was simultaneously birthed from the tree they needed to nurture. She would live within the tree, and her life was inextricably linked with the tree’s. When the tree withered away, she too would then also pass away.

Their external appearances would have no differences to a person. In all cases, they were a beautiful and bashful maiden. Their figures were slender and had a delicate face. At first glance, they would be wrongly mistaken for a female elf. Of course, these all referred to adulthood dryads.

Rumont carefully studied the small piece of wood within his hands, his mind apart from being excited, was also slightly rejoicing.

If it wasn’t for the fact he was a Druid, if he did not come to the Baronet’s household today, he absolutely wouldn’t have discovered the spiritual light on that part of the tree. As for that small tree that had been chopped down, so long as 36 hours had passed, then the life of the dryad that was closely tied to the tree would also similarly pass away.

Of course, looking at it, this dryad was of a young being. Like this, he needed to treat it even sooner.

Closing his eyes, Rumont entered into the spatial region and practically at the same time, the outside piece of wood within Rumont’s hand, shortly disappeared.

Within the Shennong Horn, the light globe was as before and was hanging 100 metres above. Unlike the past, the fire globe was already filled with golden flames after a short period. It shined with a bright golden radiance, it seemed to be in complete harmony.

Just as he entered, the spatial region was jolted. Another dull mote of light appeared in front of his eyes again and rapidly enlarged. It transformed into a semi-translucent data screen, which gave off a faint radiance into the horizon: “discovered an unusual plant, discovered an unusual plant. Activate it with the special reserves of the spatial region?”

Rumont was scratching his head, while his mind thought that if it wasn’t for this thing, he wouldn’t have heard for the first time that the region had special reserves. He nodded his head and said: “yes!”

There seemed to have been a light that shined past. Momentarily, the semi-translucent data screen unravelled slowly: “please name for unusual plant!”

“Dryad type B.” Rumont christened it himself.

“Dryad type B is in a state of dissipating vitality, please immediately plant and water.” the data screen straightaway responded.

Rumont’s mind was slightly alarmed, looking around, the whole entire region of 25 mu, was already filled with matured wheat. As a result, he then found a spot of land by the brook bank. Rumont went over, dug a small hole and carefully placed the piece of wood into it. He then buried it and irrigated it with water. It sprouted a new bud.

It could be seen that the originally faint and indistinct mist in the spatial region, that carried about a refreshing fragrance, and coiled about the entire spatial region, was currently gathering up and revolving around the piece of wood, creating rings of swirling ripples within the entire spatial region. Specks of green light began to appear.

Currently, it was the outside. Rumont couldn’t foolishly stay within the spatial region for long. Seeing that the situation was stabilizing, Rumont had then retreated his mind and mounted the horse again, rushing back towards his home. However, now was still not the time for him to be at ease, according to the records, the dryad couldn’t leave too far from her affiliated tree, neither could she maintain her vitality for a long time after having her tree chopped down. He didn’t know what the results of the treatment within the region would be like.

As a result, Rumont needed to return as quickly as possible and search for a method of rescuing the dryad. He remembered that within one of the Druid textbooks, there were some mentionings of it. If he conformed to the text, he ought to be able to increase the chances for survival.

Thinking like this, Rumont increased his speed all the more, the horse dadada straight towards his estates.

Rumont’s village wasn’t considered to be too close from here, but at least he had a horse as a means of transportation. Two hours later, the estate had then appeared at the front of him

Passing through his own estate entrance, there were quite a bit of residents bustling about. Seeing Rumont pass over, these people all successively stopped their working and greeted their Lord.

Rumont beamed a smile at them and nodded his head. Afterwards, under the attentive gaze of these people, he spurred his horse towards his own residence.

His agitation and worried mood was on the interior. Exteriorly, Rumont still struggled to control his own emotions, he didn’t want others to be aware of the treasure that he himself had obtained.

It was then at this moment that Fudi greeted him: “my Lord!”

“Oh, what is it?” eventually, after some practice, Rumont had managed to control his anger. He pulled on his horse and asked.

“My Lord, it’s been a week since the autumn plowing, if we don’t plant it soon, we’ll then have wasted time.” Fudi was anxious as he spoke, in case the time was wasted, it would be another period of half a year without another harvest. This was a major issue.

“Oh, I understand. Starting tomorrow, you’ll have your seeds by then. I need to first go prepare some other things!” Rumont said.

Fudi wished to speak but again halted, he nodded his head and watched Rumont off into the distance.

Rumont spurred his horse. The manor soon appeared rapidly within his line of sight. The manor by now had already changed its appearance. This was specifically constructed with a garden and in appearance in accordance with Rumont’s own residency, back on Earth. It was a delicate display of elegance. It gave off a unique type of atmosphere.

Not long after the building was finished, quite a bit of people had exclaimed in admiration of the manor’s elegance. And currently, whenever the people within the territory would come to this place, they would still sigh in admiration of the manor.

Rumont dismounted at the front of the building and lead the horse into the stable. Following up, he then entered the small building.

There would be two floors when looking at this building from the outside, but this was not under the consideration of a basement. The ground floor was for the use of receiving guests, the upper floor was the place Rumont slept, and where he kept his reading room. And in the basement, it was used for the storing of miscellaneous goods.

Arriving at the upper floor, the air was suffused with a type of faint fragrance that caused people to have their minds aroused. Sniffing the faint fragrance, Rumont went to the front of a bookshelves, currently, there were 5 rows of big cabinets that were stocked with many books. According to his memory, he grabbed a thick heavy book from the middle section of the 2nd row. Brushing a slight layer of dust off the cover, he then casually browsed through it.

Page 160. He had found it. There was an introduction pertaining dryads on it.

Rumont impatiently flipped a page over and concentrated, showing a thoughtful look.

Clearly recorded on top were the weaknesses of a dryad.

A dryad couldn’t leave too far from her affiliated tree, if she went beyond the range, then her vitality would weaken and would die after 36 hours. Healing spells could temporarily inhibit her weakening, but neither would it exceed 7 days.

And in regards to the situation of a dryad having her affiliated tree being harmed, it also solidly recorded several methods on how to cope with it.

When a tree was harmed, the dryad would also suffer. The vitality of a dryad would cause her affiliated tree to emit out a feeble glow. Only the keenly sensitive people, especially a Druid, would then be able to within a few steps radius perceive this glow. This was also why Rumont was able to sense the uniqueness of the tree at the time, and why the others could not discover the reason.

As for treating the harmed tree, the most simplest of methods was to use Nature recovery spells and transform it into “Nature Invocation”!

Seeing this, Rumont no longer hesitated and entered the spatial region once again.

It had nearly been 2 hours since he returned back from the Knight’s estate, during this short period, Rumont was sensing that the life of the tree piece was appearing to have stabilized. At once, he transformed the Nature healing spells into a “Nature Invocation”!

Rapidly, a type of rich green radiance had begun to enshroud the tree piece. When the radiance had dispersed, the small sprout had grown slightly, it was more verdant and had split into 5 or 6 new leaves.

Rumont still had 3 uses of Nature essence for the day, so he might as well. He repeatedly put to use the 3 chances.

When the third green radiance faded, the new sprout had transformed into a small sapling, it was roughly a sixth of a metre high.

Rumont felt it and after sensing, he exposed a faint smile. The tree piece below had sprouted out a fine root system. It wasn’t great, but it would guarantee its survival.

Resolving this issue, he loosened a breath. Rumont again gazed at the 25 mu of wheat in misery.

Aah. He needed to harvest the wheat completely.

However, not here though. Rumont exited the villa and arrived at the alchemy hall. There he took out a key that he carried on him and opened the entrance. Thereupon, he passed through the grand hall and also pressed on the original mechanism. Shortly, stone slabs slowly parted and revealed a passageway.

At the same time he closed the opening in passing, the inner passageway abruptly became dark. But there leaked a radiance in the distance and it wasn’t as far as being unable to see. Furthermore, the passage was a downhill slope with steps that wasn’t considered to be too steep. The speed at which Rumont descended was quite fast, he then soon arrived at the grand hall where the Daylight Crystal hung over. Within the hall, there were a few sickles about.

Seeing the sickles, Rumont forced out a bitter laugh. The following period was for him to work desperately.
