Chapter 101 – Familiar (Start)

Time rapidly passed by in this manner. In a flash, it was the 5th day.

On this day, Rumont was just inside the Shennong Horn.

The Shennong Horn was awfully strange in that it didn’t merely just pass objects in and out. Theoretically, Rumont’s body was outside, while inside it was just his spirit. But the treatments or injuries inside would simultaneously be reflected on his physical body.

Within the Shennong Horn, the light globe gave off flames, and was hanging 100 metres above in spilling its sunshine. Rumont gradually noticed that even if the outside had all along been raining, the light globe wouldn’t be affected at all. It no longer needed to absorb the outside sunlight.

Rumont was reclining on the ground, and not too distant was that sapling. Within the 5 days, it seemed to have grown no small amount. On the stem, vague tender sprouts that hadn’t been bored out for long, could be seen, or the newly grown green, delicate and tender leaves, which exuded a faint fragrance.

The entire region of 15 mu was a wide expanse of space. The fish in the brook also seemed to have grown bigger. The spatial region was a slice of golden yellow, rippling with a faint layer of a halo.

A semi-translucent data screen appeared automatically. The data screen gave off a faint radiance into the horizon, and a large amount of figures appeared in front of Rumont: “the farmlands have already been harvested. Do you wish to recycle?”

“Recycle!” Rumont said.

As the word was said, a green light floated over the ground. Within the green radiance, the wheat stalks decomposed rapidly, transforming into small granules that spilled over the ground, and rapidly became one with the soil.

It was only 5 minutes. The 15 mu of land once again recovered to a fertile and neatly sorted state.

Affixing the sapling with a gaze, Rumont relaxed a breath. It was still like this. Turning around, he again gazed towards the pile of hay.

It was an egg that reflected the light from the sunshine and also without the slightest of activities. This was a Cliff Eagle egg that Miss Eleni had gifted to him, and it had been placed for incubation within the spatial region for a period. But it still was yet to hatch. If it wasn’t for the senses of a Druid, that he knew it still contained a life within, he would have long ago lost all hope.

Rumont exited from within the spatial region and opened his eyes, he was currently on top of a tree branch. What entered his eyes then was an expanse of forest. Although it was already the 11th month, it was still an expanse of wilderness.

Above in the heavens, the sun was still hanging up in the sky. The oncoming twilight was not sufficient enough pass through the lush layers of trees and leaves. At another area of the day, multiple layers of black clouds were congregating without dispersing. Furthermore, it was increasingly more conglomerated, amassing into an omen of a storm.

Several birds continued to swoop about in the air, just rushing about in trying to find food. As far as they were concerned, before the storm hit, whether they were able to find food was a matter that was extremely important to them.

After all, in the midst of their nests, they might just have a young hatchling that was waiting for their parents to bring food back. Hence the unceasing swooping, and the endless low flights; they were all for survival.

Rumont stood up and was occupied the high grounds. This was an expanse in forest hills by the human boundary of farmlands. It was roughly a radius of 5 kilometres, which was the area of trees that Sir DeMarco’s household had chopped down last time.

Rumont really didn’t understand for what reason the Dryads would be so close to the dwelling of humans, the resources never had this kind of recording.

However unquestionably, was that this sapling’s origin was right here. It was because a tree that had been chopped for over 36 hours, would the dryad within would then pass away.

It was precisely because of this that after Rumont had hastily finished his activity of harvesting, and satisfying the requirements of the seed sowings, that he had then not bothered with resting, and had hurried to this small forest expanse.

At this moment, he was just in an open area at the fringes of the forest. Even though searching for new Dryads was an extremely uncertain matter, Rumont nevertheless still scoured the area; without a doubt, being futile was normal. Just as he was losing hope, he suddenly noticed a small stretch of trees.

Different to the large majority of withered trees, these few trees still maintained their fundamental greenness. They were more than 2 metres high, their branches were quite thick and broad, the foliages were like that of a willow. When the breeze blew, those supple branches and leaves would then flutter about in the wake of the breeze.

The majority of this plant type was mostly green. However, the supple tips of the branches all had a touch of a pink colouration. An indistinct fragrance was then emitted from branch tips. It dissipated within the air as the winds scattered it away.

In the vicinity of the plants was a stretch of incomparably colourful flowers. Most of the blossoms were a vivid red or a mesmerizing white. The blossoms were enormous, and with a diametre of half a metre. The foliage below the blossoms were similarly a vivid hue of emerald green. It might have been the complementary of red and green, or possibly the alternation of green and white, it looked unusually beautiful when viewed upon.

When the breeze blew, they would sway about gently. A strong and not at all disgusting, but instead bewildering scent, would continuously be emitted from the flowers.

Odd, what kind of plant is this? Rumont pondered.

It was at this time, that a few small animals below which looked quite cute, were just carefully foraging within the vicinity. The frigid winter days were approaching. Prior to it, they needed to obtain as much as possible; the last batch of food for the year.

Two of the wild rabbits that had grey fur all over were apparently interested in the mushrooms that grew in between the green plants and flowers, bounding towards the surroundings of the plants.

One of them just arrived below one of the green plants. A weird scene then appeared. The stems of the green plant that had all along flutter about with the winds, had surprisingly humanized and stretched forward. Even though the reactions of the wild rabbit was quite fast, it was still not as fast as the several branches; it was bounded up by the branches in a flash.

The power of the wild rabbits within the forest wasn’t weak in fact. At the same time that the body of this wild rabbit was ensnared, it had ferociously struggled and shedded off the bindings. It had surprisingly jumped out.

Dropping onto the ground, a wound unexpectedly appeared at the area that had just been ensnared by the branches. Another small rabbit that wanted to bounce over was then scared of the green plant, and could only watch anxiously at a distance.

Watching them attentively, the injured rabbit then lamely hobbled over to the other side and just when it was on the verge of reaching its companion’s location, it met with another variation.

And this time, the rabbit was not as fortunate as last time. This time, without waiting for its reaction, its former location only had the remains of a bloodstain. And in the space above, a huge blossom had just closed its petals. On the originally pure white flower petals, trickles of blood were just trickling down.

After the flower petals had shut, some object within it was struggling violently. However, quite soon, that struggling was becoming all the more less. Finally, what remained within the flower petals was the quiet sounds of grinding that belonged to the the blossom itself.

Personally witnessing the miserable death of its companion, the remaining rabbit was immediately startled into jumping to another area. Yet on the way from escaping, it was inattentively snared by a green plant. Furthermore, it was quickly enveloped by countless of branches that had stretched forward.

When the branches of the green plant dispersed, a white skeleton that was so clean without even the slightest of blemishes, had already crashed to the ground and shattered into a fine powder. As for the large closed-up blossom with white petals, it also abruptly opened up its petals and spat the bit of bone refuse out.

Looking carefully, it actually wasn’t that hard to discover. The surroundings of these emerald green plants, as well as the vivid and innocent blossoms, whether intact or shattered, had the many scatterings of animal corpses and bones. And the more remains an area had, the more lush the plants were growing; the blossoms were also more vivid.

These plants that appeared to be beautiful would unexpectedly have such intrinsic quality!

At an place not too far from the area, Rumont’s eyes were wide open. After a good while, he sobered up and felt his forehead, a hand of cold perspiration.

“Man-eating plants? Why would this place have such a plant?” Rumont gazed at the scenic region that already returned to normal, the cold sweat kept flowing from his forehead. He was deeply rejoicing that himself didn’t rashly go over just then.

As one could well imagine, if the first one to go other was him, then it was quite possible that the current Rumont would have otherwise become the eaten meal of the man-eating plants. Either that, he would be the sorry figure that was riddled with scars as he escaped. Both these results weren’t what he wished to witness.

Rumont again gazed at the several green plants that had already recovered is flattering beauty, and its lightly fluttering branches. He also looked over at the scene of wickedly beautiful blossoms. Shaking his head, he felt that searching for new plants was admittedly important, but his own small life was even more important. Ever since he witnessed the situation just moments ago, the current him that was rejoicing inside, had long ago given up the idea of gathering them up into his spatial region.

At this moment, the light threads in the surrounding had already darkened. Rumont lifted his head and then discovered that the hot sun that was barely hanging within the skies and emitting a radiance, had at this time already been covered by the amassing dark clouds.

It looked like this storm was imminent. Rumont promptly ran towards his own temporary abode.

His temporary abode was in fact a residence of a deforester. Rumont unexpectedly discovered a good few new plants on the road back. One type was a grass with complimentary blue and white, growing small yet delicately in a field. Although it was slightly wilted, it was still impressive enough. However, the specific uses weren’t clear.

After Rumont had determined that there weren’t any dangers, he had then collected it into the spatial region. Even though he couldn’t plant them, he could still deposit it into the region for seeds. And just as he was closely examining his surroundings again, at a time he was inspecting whether there were still new plants he had yet to discover, there was a sudden jolt within the spatial region. A message was transmitted to him.

Rumont was then startled. The spatial region that he was familiar with, why would it suddenly have such a strange action? When he saw that the surroundings had no dangers, he then went and submerged his mind into the spatial region, searching for the origin of the unusual activity.

And not too long ago, at a corner within Rumont’s spatial region, a bird type egg was suddenly rocking. Afterwards, a delicate small beak could then be seen, it had actually poked out a small opening, and was sticking out from within the shell……

A shaggy thing that looked like a chicken had exited, and was then calling out a “ji ji1” sound.

This was a calling, calling for the attention of its parents. It sounded out again and again, becoming increasingly more urgent.

The outside light was faint, yet within Rumont’s spatial region, the sunshine was still brightly illuminating. The several herb fields were still growing as luxuriantly as before, they swayed about when a breeze beckoned, and they emitted a burst of medicinal fragrance.

As for the brook, the water also flowed onward as before. Though the water wasn’t shallow, the base was clearly seen, each of the smooth round rocks that had been grinded down were shining with chaotic colours under the sunshine, looking exceedingly dazzling.

Above the brook were butterflies that continuously flew about, as well as honeybees with a buzzing sound. They mutually intertwined while dancing about in the breeze and under the sunshine.

But all of this was of no use to the small life. Its voice was increasingly more miserable. “Ji ji” sounds echoed within the region, but there was no response all along.

Different to the birds from Earth, this thing that was like a small chick had unexpectedly dropped tears in a pa pa manner after a long period without receiving a response from its parents. It no longer cried out. After resting a bit, it began to struggle towards the eggshell.

Under the situation of having no parents, the newborn life had no choice but to eat the eggshell to obtain its life’s first ever meal, and accumulate the energy for the next step. Even if the effort from this kind of animal was a waste; as often a day later, the newly born would then starve or perhaps be treated as a meal by other animals.
