Chapter 74 – Sudden Change (End)

The might of the light beam was massive. At the time, it abruptly became blindingly bright, the people dashing at the very front was immediately lifted and thrown by a power. And until everyone fell to the ground with a loud bang, that portion of powerful energy had also shakened everyone’s nerves for a long time without dispersing.

The severity of everyone’s injuries was quite critical. It was analogous to a person, who was rushing quickly in a run, who had suddenly encountered a collision with a rapidly driving car.

Even though the few people that entered into the underground chambers, all had pretty good physical prowess and martial skills, but being attacked with such a massive force, they still received an extremely serious injury.

After being thrown on the ground, those few people were practically incapable of budging the slightest. They could only issue out low sounding groans. As for the two females, they had immediately fainted from the pain.

This moment no longer allowed Rumont to dwell on anything. Seeing each breath that the people by his side was taking, which seemingly appeared to be their final struggle, he then promptly acted.

As a Rank 2 Druid, the healing spells that Rumont was able to utilize at the same time was honestly not that many.

And within the same day, he had first needed to treat the injuries of his teammates that were ambushed by the bugbears, and presently he again needed to treat the critical injuries of these few people.

Only giving the barest of tentative emergency treatments to the person on his side, did Rumont then helplessness discover that the converted healing spells he could utilize that remained, were only just a few.

Merely, if he presently didn’t hurry to give any treatment, then, the other few people with heavy injuries would quite possibly be unable to persist until he could again employ the use of healing spells; they were also absolutely unable to persist until they returned to town.

Unable to obtain any treatments, they would quite possibly die in this place. Seeing the figure of Commander Howard who was resisting the pain and persevering without issuing any groaning sounds, Rumont at this time went ahead regardless.

He decided that no matter how, he would first save and treat the Commander that had always looked after him and more. Thinking to this point, Rumont went close to Commander Howard and placed his palm onto the location of the injury.

Afterwards, Rumont closed his eyes, seeming to have entered a meditative state. This kind of situation didn’t persist for too long when a strange scene occurred.

Rumont’s face had suddenly turned green, which then followed with the green hue disappearing and changing into a red hue. It was like this that the colours continuously fluctuated. After a few times, it had finally settled downed.

When Rumont once again opened his eyes, a layer of green misty light had already appeared from the centre of his hand once again.

He lightly exhaled before beginning the initial treatment of Howard’s injury.

“Thank you, Rumont.” after the initial emergency treatment, Howard’s pain had already been reduced by quite a bit. Although he temporarily still couldn’t move his body, but he already had enough strength to open his eyes and speak with Rumont.

While Rumont was applying the healing vulnerary he conveniently carried onto his wound, he smiled: “we’ve team members. No need to say such thanks.”

“Heheh, even blood brothers ought to still give thanks when thanks are due……aiyo!” Howard propped up half his body while heheh laughing. But not wanting to aggravate his chest cavity and agitate his injury, he immediately changed to a grin and laid down again. “Really, I still don’t know what happened just then, why did we suddenly receive injuries eh?”

“Your injuries are quite severe, I can currently only a tentative treatment for you. However, it can already guarantee that your injuries won’t continue to worsen. Have a good rest here first. After a while you ought to be able to move.” Rumont had no choice but to look at the others excessively impatient manner. “As far as what happened just then……I saw it clearly at the back. A good few bugbears appeared to have activated some contraption and afterwards a bunch of light beams had suddenly appeared. Once you guys touched the light beam, it had become the current situation. I’ll go look at the others, don’t move by all means.” after urging once, Rumont hurried over to the vicinity of the others and carrying out tentative treatments to them.

More or less the same as Howard, these people had a slightly lighter injury, but in the event they were unable to get treatment in the nick of them, then they would quite possibly die here.

Rumont could only use the remaining attacking spells within his body, and convert them all into healing spells and carry out tentative treatments for them.

Speaking of the matter of converting spells, we would have to mention the uniqueness of the Druid profession. In this world, the profession of a Druid as the general populace saw it, was that they were a representative of harmony.

People in general believed that since a Druid was a supporter of Nature and balance, they would treat the entire wilderness as their own reclusive home. And so, apart from them using their own characteristic strength of protecting Mother Nature and letting the whole world achieve a harmony, Druids would practically have no offensive front. But in actual fact, the situation wasn’t really like this.

Because a Druid was the worshipper and protector of Nature, they would protect the Natural world by fighting with any sort of power.

Thus, if they did not have any kind of attacking spells, then they would be unable to have any guarantee for their life and safety. And they would neither have any method of protecting all the things they wished to defend.

Attacking spells were also a necessary course for Druids. Although during the learning process, because the Druid’s characteristics was focused, attacking spells only occupied a tiny portion.

However, practically when every single Druid obtained the approval of Nature, they would also acquire some insignificant attacking spell abilities.

Provided that these attacking spells were learnt, then even if it wasn’t cultivate assiduously, it would still be able to give fatal attack to enemies at critical moments; hence protecting one’s own life and safety.

And because these attacking spells existed, another ability that only belonged to the Druid profession had also appeared with it.

And that was, Energy Transformation.

The reason why it was spoken that a Druid was a supporter of Nature and balance, the protector of harmony, was because of one very important reason. Which was the contributions of the Druids in healing spells.

Not only could they dedicate their own body and mind towards Mother Nature, they could also cure those with injuries. This kind matter of being able to tend to the sick and injured was also the main factor of why they received everyone’s reverence.

However, because they wouldn’t frequently utilize the other attacking spells, and would quite often use healing spells instead, thus a majority of the time, during situations when the Druid had completely used up their healing spells, they would all convert their attacking spells into healing spells.

On the other hand, healing spells couldn’t be converted to attacking spells.

Once any kind of spell was used up, it was similar to a person having used up their bodily strength; requiring recovery and resting to be able to once again be reborn. As for spells, they more or less had a direct relationship to one’s level of cultivation, as well as Rank standard.

It was exactly because of this kind of unidirectional converting relationship, that the profession of a Druid, out of all the other professions, could be regarded as on being on equal footing with the profession of a Priest; a type of profession that was exceptionally well respected by everyone.

What Rumont was currently just doing, was to take his own attacking spells and completely convert it into healing spells; using them to treat the injured.

Even though he had just noticed that Lancas, who had always harboured malicious intentions against him, was the same as him in not receiving any injuries, he was not at all sure that the other would cause troubles at this very moment.

In the event that it was only a guess, and he didn’t go save and treat Howard and the others, it was something that he couldn’t do. It was fine if it was the people form Lancas’ squad. He didn’t have any friendship with them, if they died, they died. But the people from Howard’s squad and him, they were comrades-in-arms that had experienced an adventure together; he couldn’t merely from a guess, go and abandon treating them.

Moreover, even if Lancas really did have malicious intent against him, under the current situation, there was only Lancas himself. Solely relying on his attacking spells, he feared that it also wouldn’t do much against him. Rumont’s primary method of self-preservation were the assassination methods he learnt from the Thieves, and his present martial skills.

“Rumont, it’s been hard on you. How are they currently? Commander Howard, can you move presently?” when Rumont was just thinking about a certain someone, that person had unfortunately walked over.

Seeing Lancas’ troubled face as he observed himself, Commander Howard neither thought much of it as he depressedly shook his head. “Currently I still can’t move. Rumont only gave me a tentative treatment, the next treatment will need a while.”

“For what reason? Rumont, you’ve used up your spells right?” Lancas turned his head over and gazed towards Rumont by the side, a face full of puzzlement. “I see that the situation of Commander Howard and them is quite terrible. If you’re still able to save and treat them, I’ll have to trouble you to treat them immediately.”

Rumont saw he had an expression of anxiety, only within his eyes, there was still a flash of joy; he couldn’t help by increase his vigilance. “My healing spells have truly been used up.”

“Oh. Then that’s really too bad eh. In that case, I’ll go up and get people to carry the injured.” Lancas lamented before standing up to leave.

And at the moment when Rumont thought that he was truly going to leave, the youth had suddenly taken out the sword that was hanging by his waist and had abruptly turned his body around, chopping towards Rumont; causing Rumont to crash to the ground.

Only a “pu” was sounded. It was lucky that Rumont had raised his guard early, yet he did not even consider that the other would truly and surprisingly have such a large enmity with him, unexpectedly becoming hostile in front of everyone and painfully trying to kill him.

His body had reacted in that instant, his head had strongly leant to the side while his body had retreat back a few inches. And even though it was like this, with the opponent’s sudden surprise attack, it was violent enough that it still cut Rumont’s stomach.

Rumont’s injury was quite serious. Even if the small wooden idol that he had concealed away just then, had substituted Rumont’s stomach during the opponent’s strike, it had only hindered a portion of the offense.

Yet the opponent’s strength was enormous, thus after the icon was chopped at, it had still continued striking toward Rumont’s body and made Rumont sustain a heavy injury. Fresh blood immediately sprayed.

And it was at this moment that Rumont believed he was finished. Once again being played by fate.

However as chance would have it, just when he resolved his heart to try and learn the spirit of the bugbears, in not allowing the opponent to feel at ease with his death.

A miracle occurred.

The instant Rumont fell to the ground, a sudden unexpected bout of energy was spreading and entering into his body; from amidst of the already cracking icon that was within his chest. As it scattered about his insides, it furthermore also began to heal his wound.

Rumont was clear in responding to the changes in his body. As a result, he who was so astute, had, once he collided with the ground, immediately rolled on the ground and acted out the manner of dying.

In the attempts of stalling for time.
